Description : Asta Regia (or Hasta Regia ) was an ancient city established with high probability in the Late Atlantic Bronze Age (1250 BC - 850 BC) that would have lasted until the 10th century AD Its archaeological remains are today buried under wheat fields in the rural neighborhood of Mesas de Asta in Jerez de la Frontera ( Andalusia , Spain ), in a vast area of 60 hectares. The city that would have been occupied by Tartessians , Phoenicians , Turdetans , Romans and Islamists, it would have reached an area in its maximum period of splendor of 25 hectares, which have been analyzed since 2017 with georadar . 4 The investigations carried out by Manuel Esteve , in the mid-20th century, believe that it was a settlement founded by the Tartessians , which later would have been a Roman city of great importance in Baetica . There are studies that contemplate the possibility that it might have been Atlantis , as it was located in a flooded area between the mouths of the Guadalquivir and Guadalete rivers . 5 It was declared of Cultural Interest (BIC), under the category of Archaeological Zone, in 2000.
